If no one know, i will let you know when i am back from my trip
will try to dump in more moss, hope it help.
May be i can over feed them, hahaha. but it bad.
if you are away for 3 days i think the fries should be ok.are the fries still under the female care or u have separate them?..either ways..before u left home, feed them well(not overfeeding) and yes better to have extra moss for them.
Please let us know when you're leaving, so as to give a rough guage of how old are the fries.
If for the first seven to nine days you need not worry, since they're at a stage of consuming their yolk sac.
if on the tenth day, it is where it's very critical. They are able to take first food by mouth.
In any way, if you're going away for 3 days, what i can suggest you to do is start up a culture of micro organism food for them.
1) get a tank or container,
2) get a sponge filter
3) liquid fry for egg layers
about 1week you'll be able to start up a culture of micro organism. Just before you leave, do a 20% water change with the cultured water. Add on to it, change the sponge filter in the fry tank to the cultured one.
Should be pretty safe for 3 days.
The above are tried by me, solely on artificial hatching(no parents), so result might vary. Anybody got better solution?
If you leave the female with the fries, i think 3 days will be fine.
Cheers!

thanks for the replynow my trip have cut short to 2days.
My fries are more than 10 days old. they are able to take BBS now.
i dont have 10days to cultivate micro organism as i am leaving this Sat.
May i know what is "liquid fry for egg layers" ? where to get it? thanks
I have a sponge filter in tank now, hope the fries will find food there.
Liquid fry comes in a white bottle...hmm actually C328 has them, quite a few shop do carry it...
if it's 2 days no issue already. Don't worry.

hi sheng, actually if you don't mind, 3days without food is really quite ok.Originally Posted by sheng

It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!
The tank have a sponge filter, full of mosses & ADA soil
i wonder is there a way to speed up the grow rate![]()
Apisto fries do have a limited growth rate in a limited time. So no use feeding them 24/7 etc....
Depending on species...some can grow faster then others..
for eg: caca can mature in 6months to young adult whereas for diplo, they're still infants!

OICwill take note of it

besides bbs, what type of food should we feed them,so that they will be able to grow up faster?Originally Posted by benetay
There are a wide variety of food that can be fed to fries,
Eg:
BBS
Daphnia
microworm
They need food rich in protien to grow so the easiest would be BBS. Which is both rich in protien and carotene.
Food does not equate to the more = faster growth. Doesn't mean i keep pumping 24/7 BBS they'll mature in 6months.
It is not advisable to keep forcing it to grow quickly, which will also detoriate the quality. Just keep it and feed it twice or 3 times a day when they're fries.
Good things must wait.
BBS is one of the best food around and have been around for decades.

wah 3 fries only...hmm...removing the male will be okay...let the mother take care of the fries for about a month before removing the female...
they grow faster with the mother.
Cheers!

If you are into breeding your apistos and you are keeping it in smallish tanks, forget about having dither fish.
hi ash, just a word of caution.Originally Posted by ash
I've seen slim-bodied apistos that are too fat because it was 'pumped up' by irresponsible commercial breeders.
It will not do justice to the natural look of the fish.
Apistos are relatively slow-growing fishes and that's the way it is.
