Currently I am using a 2028 for my 4 feet, using the standard media that came with the filter. So far so good. I hv a old Fluval 303, which I think is more appropriate for a 3 feet tank. I am thinking of using the 303 to compliment my existing set up. I request for advice from those who are using a 2 canisters set-up.

Q1 If I were to use the 303 to polish the water, what will be the types of media to use in its 3 baskets?

Q2 If I were to add an external C02 reactor, similar to those sold at NA, would it be better to run this from the 303 or the more powerful 2028? Less power = higher probability of gas disolving, right?

Q3 Any other ideas on maximising the 303 for the setup?

    Tks and best regards.

    1) You need a media which will trap fine dirt. This media need to be compacted and small enough to remove any floating debris but will allow water to pass through it. I'm not sure whether a canister filter fit your requirement as it's main function is to house beneficial bacteria to consume any organic waste. The worry is that the pump may not be strong enough to suck out water out from the canister into the tank. You may need a fluidised reactor to house such media and a strong pump to push the water through such fine media.

    2) I'll connect it to the 2028.

    3) I'll use it as a normal canister filter.

Ehlim, maybe you could use very fine sand to filter out those floating debris. But this setup should not be used on a long term basis as whatever debris that is filtered out with this method must be removed manually together with the fine sand as whatever the fine sand traps may break down and pollute the water.
