My is 1 ft tank. just put plant no filter, no air pump..
well, maybe you can disclose the specs of your shrimps tank. it depends on your setup, some of our members here have those non co2 shrimps tank, they just do topping up of water.
as for me, i do weekly water change on my 4ft co2 enriched tank(shrimps tank)
I just put some java fern plant inside 1 ft tank ,think to change water as i keep discus & every 2 to 3 day change the 80% water.... so how many percent of water you change every week?

Discus in a 1 feet tank?!
It is a very cramped space for them...
You might want to get a bigger tank for them...
maybe you might want to let us know the tank size that you're intending to have, so it will be easier for us to chip in ideas
plant to put in 1 ft tank..no discus..scare all gone ..
sohe2002, other thread discussing about keeping cherries with discus, seems like a lot of them had a bad experience of it. provided you have ample hiding space in your tank, else why don't you get a separate tank?!Originally Posted by sohe2002
Ya, I putting the shirmp in 1 ft tank..Originally Posted by richietay
putting the shrimps in a 1feet tank, should not have any prob. A hang on filter will do just as fine, maybe you might want to consider having moss in the tank. Your shrimps will love it
Just some experience that I can contribute:
Filter:
- Sponge filter
Cannot support high bioload. Provide more oxygen for shrimps and also micro-orgaisms for shrimps to feed on but looks ugly in there. However might be a little noisy and lets CO2 escape (but should be ok with moss). Less cleaning or no cleaning for me.![]()
- HOF
Cannot support high bioload. Provide more oxygen by causing water current (cannot think of better words) and causing CO2 to escape. Since outside tank, no micro-orgaism for shrimps but looks nicer. Need to do more frequent maintenance of the filter.
Plants:
No plants better than any kind of moss(as long as they are growing well). Shrimps love them (eating them too!) Just make sure they grow faster than the shrimps can eat them.Go for java moss since easiest to grow under most conditions (still need sufficient light or will turn brown). Other plants are also suitable but easier to go for low light requirement plants. They like shelter from the lights anyway, except feeding time. I have 3 pieces of driftwood with moss in my 1 ft cube shrimp tank.

Just started blogging my experience in: http://www.dikiaquarium.blogspot.com/
2 ft planted tank, 2 ft low maintenance planted tank & planted shallow tank left now
Hi,diki & kemp Thanks for the advices.
Use ADA soil will be good for the shrimps too![]()
Too bad,,just found most of the shrimps die after top up the water ...
Sohe2002, care to disclose your 1ft tank specifications? best to post a picture, guess our fellow forumers be willing to give you some useful tips.
how long is your 1ft since setup?! running any CO2?!
As taking the shrimp from bro here, so just put inside my spare tank. & put some leaf..no co2,as the bro breed without co2,without air pump, only moss..but i dont have moss, just put somr leaf..my tank just about 4 day.
your tank certainly not conditioned enough for the shrimps!
what is the best way that if I don't want to inject the CO2,just get the moss..PL light on or sun light....?
