depends on which algae you want to get rid and your budget. Malayan is a lot cheaper.

From what I know, both are equally effective, however as alanyeo99 put it, depends on what you want to get rid and your budget, just remember that these helpful tank friends do not eat all sorts of algaes like many of us wish they do![]()

It's definitely yamatoes for me. They strip my driftwood clean of algae in < 1 week. However, beware... they will go for your moss too.

Thanks brothers for all your good suggestions.

does yamato eat mini pellia and fissiden?Originally Posted by bclee

my case, the mini pellia are pretty safe from yamatoes

Malayan seems more hardy to me then the yamatos. Best of all, they come cheap.![]()

I did not try. I wouldn't dare to introduce yamato into my tank with fissidens.Originally Posted by lEddyl

Hi,
Besides yamato & malayan, any other types of shrimps eat algae?
Like tiger, CRS, do they eat algae? Can any one share his experience?
TIA

For me, Yamato is more effective and hardy. Both do not eat mini pellia but not sure about Fissidens.

somehow my tank don't like yamato
1st try - throw 2 in, 2 dead
2nd try - throw 3 in, 2 dead
but my fish and malaya shrimp ok.

Eddy: Perhaps you need to acclimatise the yamato shrimps carefully as they are sensitive to water conditions. Have you read this thread The Ultimate Acclimatiser?
