    Hi

Looking for cheaper alternative. Any recommendation of using cheaper 3rd party sponge filter for Eheim Ecco instead of original?

You referring to the white filter wool?
I just bought those normal white fine wool you see hanging from the top of C328 and cut them to size and stuff it into my Eheim 2213 filter...

does that have equally good filtration compared with original eheim(blue and white wool)? Using the DIY wool, how often do you change compare with original eheim?

To me, there isn't much of a difference... Imagine you have a not so fine wool but stacked 2 to 3 layers and 1 piece of Eheim fine wool...

Is the end result the same? Personally, I think it is... Except that the outflow might be abit slower for me, as the wool became too fine...

For the blue sponge, I am not sure how many does the Ecco series comes with. But for my 2213, I substituted most of the blue sponge with ceramic rings and Eheim Substrate... So only used 1 and have 3 extra not used or changed...
