Lack of nutrients means that your plants are lacking their essential 'vitamins' and they won't grow as fast or healthy that you would like them to be growing.

Hygrophila difformis grows like a weed in good conditions, from my experience, it grew to almost 2 feet in height and in good lightings, its tends to grow horizontally instead, becoming somewhat like a creeping plant.

Are your difformis leaves light/translucent green? If they are then yes you are lacking nutrients.

You can do a search for Estimative Index or NPK (KNO3, KH2PO4, K2SO4). When did you set up your tank and do you have base fert in your gravel?

Think its best you fill up the form so that we'll all have a better picture of your problem, this can be found at the following URL.

    What are you actually asking?

Are your plants growing too fast as compared to your friend's plants?

If you doing make yourself clear, very hard to give you a decent answer.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

based roughly on your lights,pH & KH, i would assume you have a pretty good co2 level, as well as assuming you dose ferts... then your tank conditions is pretty good for your plants. resulting in faster growth than your friend's

Can you type properly? It doesn't take much energy to key in a few more alphabets.

You're new to planted tanks aren't you?
Read the stickies at the top of this forum, especially the "Get started here".

The main reason why your friend's plants grow much better than yours is your execution of the planted tank. Knowing more and reading more help. We cannot answer your question because it's too general; too many factors will affect growth rate.
