First off, you need at least 6 barbs to make sure they don't start killing each other. Small schools stress them to death.

Next, get some otos, small plecos, Garra flavatra stuff like that, but make sure you get only TWO. A tank that size isn't meant for schooling fish bigger than 3cm.

Synthesia, do you mean you had 3 tiger shrimps or 3 tiger barbs?

Can I assume you are asking about what fish can be kept with your shrimps?...

I can only recommend boraras which I have 25 in a 2 ft shrimp tank and 10 in 1 ft cube tank. Also kept clown killies as well with no problems (at least I did not see them eat shrimplets)...

Yes, I would only recommend Boraras spp. for the safety of the shrimplets. However, you can get by, hopefully, with other smallish and quiet fish like clown killies. However, if breeding is what you are looking for, then it is best not to keep fish with the shrimps.

If breeding is not what you are looking for, then you can even keep smallish fish like Endler's livebearer, celebes rainbowfish, neon gobies etc, which has small mouths...

    Macrobrachium rosenbergi

LOL, ok. Seriously, you're in malaysia there's dozens of native shrimp species that co-exist in your local streams and rivers. And they aren't even endangered! i used to see snakeheads in the drains outside my aunts' place.

Huh? Boraras spp. have wierd body shapes?

try searching for boraras pictures... They look just like normal rasboras, just tiny in size.

Btw, I will try to split your other question to another thread...

That is a harlequin rasbora (Trigonostigma heteromorpha). A nice fish, but I think is too large and active for a small shrimp tank.

You can see some examples of Boraras species here:
    http://www.h4.dion.ne.jp/~tamao/sakana2.htm

    and

    http://www.rva.ne.jp/cogata/2.html

None of the boraras gets too more than an inch and are fine with shrimp. One species, Boraras maculatus, is native to Malaysia, although it's not commonly sold in shops maybe because locals think such tiny fish are not interesting. And you have to ask yourself, is your friend's opinion of what is 'weird" more important that what you yourself feel? Its' your hobby, after all.

GAH!! I was joking about the rosenbergii!! they're frigging monsters! Can easily get up to about 8 inches.. Udang Gala would be the more common name.
