Made the mistake of putting in 100 cardinal tetras after only 2 weeks of a new planted 3 foot setup.. About 70 have died since.

However, of the 30 surviving, none are eating! My ammonia and nitrite and nitrate levels are almost zero, but my alkalinity is quite high at 7.5 - 8. Could this be the reason? Also, its a hooded tank, the temperature is 32 degrees celcius. Could this be the reason why they are uncomfortable and thus not eating?

Recommendations? Bump up the CO2 maybe? or put a fan?

    yes...
For Tetra, recommended pH should be ard 6 -6.5
    temp around 24C - 28C
Can try putting a fan to see if it helps, else use a cheap method of freezing water in a plastic bottle (ie coke< large, small up to you) then put it on the water..(dun don't empty the contents into the tank~!)

pH is definitely unsuitable. Any idea why your tank pH is so high? Are you using any coral chips or similar materials in your tank?

I am not sure if 3 to 4 pieces will increase the pH by that much. I assume it is small pieces right? Hmm... could be something else as well.

Although some fishes can adapt to acidic/alkaline water conditions, tetras do not do well in alkaline waters. When water conditions are not suitable, the fish will get stress and a stressed fish will sometimes not eat.

As to whether that is the case for your fishes, it could be one of the many things, so at least try to get some things right first and then monitor them for further reactive actions if need to.
