i've fed my Apisto Caca the following foods
live food
tubifex worms
brine shrimp
frozen food
Brine Shrimp
Daphnia
Bloodworms
so far from observation
i've observed that they love live brine shrimp and Frozen blood worms the best
thery simply hate the frozen daphnia
i don't know why...
so which is of more nitritional value
brine shrimp or Daphina
i'm just worried about the salt content in brineshrimp..
so which is better..?
also where in sg can i get live Daphnia?

Is is true that Daphnia is a low maintanence culture as compared to brine shrimp?
ie: no need salt, easier maintain and keep alive..?
Do you know of any shops selling in the East?

BLK 822 Tampines St 81, at Golden Classic Aquarium. They sell them at any amount. Basically, they stock up a good larder of live food here and none of them are packed yet, except for the feeder fishes and frogs. You can also go to OTF Aquarium, best to get them around 10am to 11am, when most of them are freshly packed. They die out slowly over the hours when kept in the bag.
Maintaining them is not easy, but you might check with the betta shop in roxy square, they apparently breed themselves.

I feel the need to correct that statement.. breeding daphnia is quite easy. All you need is a tank, water, some moss, a few snails and fish food. Put those together, leave them for a week. overfeed the snails daily(1 teaspoon should be enough)
After that week you should have a healthy ammount of bacteria in the water. Possibly even cloudy water. Good. Throw in some daphnia(1/10 of the bag) and you'll have a breeding colony of them.
how do you maintain or keep the culture alive to keep a constant food source for my fishes? will adding green water to it do any good??

I just failed in culturing daphnia..Don't know whats wrong also..
Bought one culture from this shop in Bedok a while back. Culture died pretty fast.
Recently, one of my planted tanks which is currently left with 2 cherries (as i don't have the time to maintain) has started to culture daphnia all by itself (I did not put them inside). Hoping to take them out sometime soon to culture (only a few - 10 to 20).
Also scared the crap outta me in terms of breeding mossies so have since covered the top with cling wrap but the daphnia are still growing.
I was wondering is daphnia is good for algae control. Put some is a net and dump it into the tank. you control the algae and st the same time you got fish food..Kill 2 bird with 1 stone..
Question on feeding the daphnia. I read on the web that they can be fed dried blood. http://www.caudata.org/daphnia/
Will the blood water from frozen bloodworm suffice? Hmm anyone keeping daphnia culture and willing to experiment?
