Chinese Translation for Moss Names

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me with some translations on moss names into chinese? I'm keeping mosses in Beijing, China and I just moved here from Singapore

Xmas Moss -> 三角莫丝？？
Weeping Moss -> ??
Willow Moss -> ??
Spiky Moss -> ??

Would be really appreciative if someone could help me. Not many moss enthusiasts in Beijing

I am not proficient in mandarin and at the same time, I may provide the wrong (unofficial) names. However, I hope direct translation helps (in han yu ping ying, I do not have mandarin software):
Weeping Moss -> yu cou muo si
Willow Moss -> si ciang muo si
Spiky Moss -> ci muo si

The professor told me once that the Chinese name "muo si" for byrophytes is incorrect. The correct name should be "tai sien" or something like that. Please take note that my Hanyu Pinyin is deplorable so my spelling is probably wrong.

"Tai" would mean "liverworts" and "sien" mosses. Together, they mean "bryophytes".

If you have time, you should go on walks in the nature reserves of Beijing. The professor said there are many species of mosses in China and I'm sure there are some which have not been introduced into our hobby. The professor has also been in touch with fellow-bryologists in China and they told him they intend to do a research into the aquarium mosses available there. I'm quite sure that in China, there is a fair amount of interest in aquarium mosses. My guess is you have been visiting the wrong fish shops.

Hi Paul,
I have visited a few LFSs in Beijing and Shanghai and it seems the name in used in the aquarium trader are Java Moss and Triangular Moss. Triangular Moss is being used to refer to any mosses which is not Java Moss. I have seen Spiky, Weeping and Christmas moss being referred to as Triangular Moss. This is probably because keeping aquatic mosses is still a very new hobby there. Maybe you can try to check Hong Kong and Taiwan aquarium websites to see if they have come up with Chinese common names for the mosses you mentioned.

Also, some of the LFSs told me they get their supply of mosses from Singapore and Taiwan while others get theirs from aquatic plant farms in Guangzhou.
