    Hey there,

(By the way, I don't know if this is the correct sub-forum to post this in or elsewhere, if its meant for somewhere else, mods, please assist)

I'm thinking of doing a rescape (major overhaul + the removal of some fauna which I have been trying 3 odds months to trap.....) and am keeping discus in this current planted tank and currently my smaller tank (2 footer) is busted with a leak and a cracked glass.

With the major rescape in mind, I'm thinking of how the discus will handle the stress levels PLUS on top of that, the floating particles of dirt, etc. Has anyone ever done a major rescape whilst having your discus(s) still in the same tank and come out victorious?

    Any ideas?

yes, the normal "rules" for major rescapes apply...

    basically, here's what i did

    1. pull out ALL plants, remove woods, scrub tankwalls... only fauna left and gravel
    2. drain tank water until about 1ft height (tank 2.5ft ht) and then rescape i.e. planting etc
    3. scrub all equipment and wipe clean tank walls
    4. top up water and dose fert
    5. 2 x 2028 canisters.. 1 cleaned a week after major rescape and the other, week after next.

    casualty zero...

but mine is a 6ft tank with adult discus and fishes that's in it for 18 months

need to do things fast as not good to have canisters stop running for too long... within 2hrs?
    Cheers,

    Within 2 hours! That's fast.

Did you store your tank's water?

"new" water straight from tap into tank via hose with addition of seachem prime. so it's like a 80% water change...

actually the canisters were off only when the water level is drained below the inlet pipe... so actual off time is ard 60min max

come on, don't pamper your fishes too much. Life can be ups and downs for all living things. Your fishes cannot complain to SPCA unless you pass them your mobile phone. Haha...

Jokes aside, I don't see a problem with your fishes during rescape. Avoid hard knocks, falling rocks/dw, which can hurt them. The only stress, I think, may come from the new water. Happy rescaping!
