    Tolong lah, teach me Singlish leh.

    I am feeling Kaypoh today and have decided sometime within the next couple of years to make a trip to Singapore . In an effort to get to know the 'lingo' and out of respect for the forum I would like to learn to spiak a bit of Singlish. Maybe when I am there we could visit Kopi tiam for a chat? Already my mind is barang barang from all the new words I am learning

    Can lah if I asked for translations of the Singlish I do not understand here? It would be nice to arrive in your beautiful country with a little knowledge. And to communicate a little better here on this forum. Can ah teach me lah? You have to be patient with me because maybe I am KAY KIANG.

    Kind regards
    Cameron

    your Singlish completely koyah one.

    then that last statement is very crude even though I don't quite catch which one it mean. the common one should be "Kiao Kar Yo L... P..."

    Sorry, I will edit out, thought it was quite funny. My apologies, was not meaning to be crude.

    This made me laugh out loud!

    Happy Camper, to learn Singlish is to get to know how it originated. We know where it originated so the 1st lesson must be to know who spoke it. Once you know that, the rest is downhill.

    Nevertheless, all you need is time and understanding.
    If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

    singlish is a mix of malay/hokkien/teochew/chinese/english all rolled into one.
    Most words you see on the site choy mentioned, at least, have those roots.
    You're doing quite well i must say.

    learn singlish the best way is come over here and borrow some money from my ahlong brudder ah seng. very soon you will find him very helpfully call you on your phone and shout powderful singlish phrases for you to practice, and also come to your house at night and write singlish phrases (e.g. O$P$ and others relating to your maternal ancestors) for you to practice. Usually he even leaves a pig head in recognition of your hardwork.

    Kiu = to make alot of noise (speaking rubbish?)
    boh = placed b4 the verb is making a negative?
    Boh Kiu = unpleasant noise?

    Geez. If you learnt all that from reading the forums, you're doing pretty well.

    Kiu = ball.
    Boh = no, don't have.

    E.g.
    Wa boh ke = I'm not going.
    Boh, wa boh koon = No, I didn't sleep.

    Barang barang = stuff, things.

    Tumpang = give a lift

    I think you meant to use "tolong" which is help.

    Chio kah peng = ROTFL

    Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
    A woman, without her man, is nothing.
    A woman: without her, man is nothing.
