It should be a fake thing....but again, I don't care... because I think it's not nice anway..If you want them to be happy, just provide right water and living condition, and leave them alone... This is my opinion.
But on the other hand, if people are training dogs, cats...etc.. to do tricks, why not fishes.... (though i do not support that)
Has anyone seen the show "Street Magic" ? The magician thought his little fishie
a few techniques
Life Is Blessed By Those Who Are Blessed
Living a fake life is by following other people's life, get a life n follow yours and u will have pride

Once I "trained" a Paradise fish to leap out of water to snatch tubifex worm. I gradually increase the height of where the worm was placed (hanging from a tweezer) and it eventually can snatch from a two inches hieght above water. But is more liked their natural instinct to do this act, rather than really being tranined.
LOL, same here but I 'trained' my congo tetras & rainbow fishes to do the same thing too

Positive reinforcement works on almost any animal. As long as it equates an action with food, it'll keep repeating that action. But with fish that action must be extremely simple. Like jumping or comming to the surface as they don't have very long memories.
