Importance of iodine and calcium for shrimps

Is it important to provide iodine and calcium for shrimps to survive? If so, how much and does it affect fishes and plants? I also notice mortality rate among my shrimps is about one a week, could it be my fish or the fertiliser that I add in? I keep coral red, 3 lines, sparking gourami, liquorice gourami, samurai gouramy, chocolate goruami and 1 betta cocina.

Fert is seachem exel and nutrafin lushgro, been using nutrafin cycle too to promote bacterial growth the catalyst way.

Surprisingly,a few of my malayans are the hardiest shrimps in the tank. lose 3 rudolph rednosed shrimps since I introduce them into the tank.

From what I read.. iodine is essential for the shrimp moulting process, without which shrimps will turn white and die from moulting complications. I've seen this happen to some of my bee shrimp, but i'm not sure of the cause. I came upon iodine deficiency while checking out possible cause of deaths. Suggest supplementation via iodine supplements, I think i've seen Red Sea and Seachem branded iodine supplements. Dunno if it's suitable for freshwater though, it says the ingredients are sodium iodide... will increase salinity?

Calcium's importance is obvious towards their carapace.

So in this case, I should add iodine and calcium, but can it affect my fish and plants? I am very particular about mixing up the parameters of my tank water, as I have suffered some mortality the last month and my wallet too took a beating recuperating the loss of my fish count.

I wouldn't add iodine in large amounts... with a varied diet and rich substrate, I think they'll be able to find it somewhere. They only need iodine in minute amounts. My shrimps only turned white and die in a tank that has a poor, inert substrate with limited lighting and a box filter for filtration. I haven't seen them having the same problems when I put them in a larger tank with a canister filter, lower temperatures, and better substrate (Ada + JBL). Hard to tell what was the cause of the white shell problems with so many differences. If you want, you can get try getting iodized table salt(normal cooking salt iodized to supplement human diet) or offer a little kelp based food. Hikari crab cuisine and boiled dandelion leaves contain ample amounts of calcium.
