New forum features

Hi all,

With the recent upgrade of the forum software, other then bug, security and performance fixes, comes some new features I'm sure most will appreciate.


Multi-quote
Now you can quote multiple posts in one reply, without tedious cutting and pasting and messing around with [quote] tags. Simply click the buttons of the posts you want to quote and the buttons will turn red like this .

When you click the or the buttons, all the posts you selected in the same thread will be quoted in your edit window.

If you have selected any posts from other threads for multi-quoting, you will be given an option below the edit window to include them or deselect them.


Marking individual forums as read
It's now easier to mark individual forums as read. Just simply double-click the icon of the respective forum.


Quote tags link back to original posts
When you quote posts using the quote or multi-quote buttons, the forum will automatically create button that links back to the quoted message. For example, in the quote below, if you click on the button, it will bring you to my original post:

Hi all,

I will be performing a software upgrade tonight from 12midnight onwards. I expect it to take a few hours. So, get an early night and I'll see you all tomorrow morning with an upgraded forum with some nifty new features.

Improved Proxy Support in Session Handling
This might solve some of the login problems that some of you are facing.

In previous versions of vBulletin, you needed to keep the same IP address from page-to-page in order to maintain a session. While this is very good for security, it causes significant problems for users behind a proxy, such as AOL users. vBulletin 3.6 provides an option that allows you to control how much of the IP address must match for a previous session to be maintained. This should help eliminate many of the problems users have with staying logged in.

Links to directly unsubscribe from threads in new replies notification emails
In the past, the link only brought you to your subscription manager in your User CP. Now the link will cancel the specific subscription.


Popup list of attachments
If you click on the paperclip icon next to a thread title in the forum thread list, a new window will open with a list of attachments in the thread with some basic details. You can then open each attachment from that window.


Better formatting in notification emails
In the past the posts quoted in notification emails were not formatted very well, making them hard to read. vBulletin has now improved the way posts are formatted in plain text so that they are readable in emails.


BCC in PMs
Now there is an additional 'BCC' field when composing PMs. In addition to that, receipients will see all receipient in the 'To' field. In the past, although PMs can be sent to multiple members, the receipients cannot see who are in the 'To' list. (BCC functions as it should, the receipients will not see who is in the BCC list.)


Pause and resume attachment downloads
If your browser supports pausing of downloads, you can pause and resume the downloads of attachments.

Auto-resizing of image attachments
Now if you try to attach an image that is larger then the acceptable limits, the forum will attempt to resize it to fit. In the past, the forum would have rejected the attachment and left it to you to resize before attaching again.
