My experience is that rasboras and tetras will eat the fries if they get the chance to...

I have tried other dither fishes like hatchets, clown killies, pencils... All will attack the free swimming fries if they stray out of the mother's watch. Bear in mind that when they fries gets comfortable, they will start to swim away from the female. Especially since yours is a small tank, more prone for the fries to come into contact with the dither fishes. So far, best dithers for my tank are boraras.

You should plant more heavily...If you provide enough plants and cover for the fries to hide in. Shouldn't be much of a problem... My other advice if you want to keep the fries alive would be to transfer them to another tank once they are free swimming.

would it be advisable to transfer the fries into a hatching net, don't know what are they called, those white colour nettings which some LFS uses.. around the surfaces of the tank..

1 more question is, will i be able to see the eggs of the apisto? maybe i can bring the dithers out when eggs are spotted?

because my female is hiding in the shot glass which i had in the tank, been like this for around 2-3 days already.. is it signs of the female cleaning the cave for spawning? i'm very new to apistos.. maybe i'm thinking too much?

eggs spotted inside the shot glass... kinda of reddish in colour.. is that supposed to be the colour?
    what should i do now?
firstly i plan to remove the dithers... but do i need to remove the male also?
will the female eat the fries like what hamsters do to their young?

Congrats...should be eggs. My caca eggs are pinkish in colour. I think its the type of food that you feed that determines the redness of the eggs.

You can remove the dithers and some guys here remove the male as well to prevent the male from disturbing the female. My male caca sometimes eats the fries. For me, i remove the free swimming fries into my fry only tank.

Females will eat the eggs or fries when she is stressed up. Leave her alone with the fries and try not to spook her. Provide sufficient hiding places.

sad to say, i'm left with only 1 egg..
i looked into the cave and saw 1 egg left on the wall...

will the reason be because it's the first time my apisto is laying her eggs? i read from 1 website, it says it might eat her eggs during the first time..

If you had used ADAsoil on your apisto tank as well. It would facilitate in their breeding because ADAsoil lowers PH of the water.

    ada soil

Totally agree with genes, ADA soil lower the pH, it hovers around 4.8 to around 5.5 , good for apisto... black water is to enhance breeding n and try to plant more plants... just my two cents...

i'm actually using pH-Down solution to lower the pH..
    pH controlled around 6-6.5...

i'll probably have to redo the whole tank again...
this time round adding some base fert to it.. if not, any plants i plant in, will all die off slowly.. i'm keeping this pair in a 2ft tank.. so if i were to plant more, i don't know what i should do. so probably i will add a seperator and seperate the tank into 2, add in some ferns, then keep another pair on the other half... probably a pair of caca "orange flash"?

Try to keep the tank as a single pair tank if possible. The power of apisto maybe great to resist and soon your tank will be a community tank soon Haha..
