When I first started my hobby abt 2 years ago, I bought my 1m tank with hood. I found quite troublesome whenever I need to tend the tank cos of the hood. I have to lift the whole thing and put on the floor. So I decided to add a skirting and mount the hood to it with a hinge.
I bought the material from Ikea. The wood is actually for shelving purpose.
Now it's able to easily flip up and I can do whatever I want with the tank.

The shelving set you are using is my favourite DIY material also! I not only use the stand but also the shelf tops too (i knock the whole thing off)
I like it because it is easy to saw, easy to screw in , strong but light at the same time! woohoo ikea rack
