Hi all, i find that weeping moss can never weep in my tank and i don't know why

I got the weeping moss from an experienced chap here and i have no reason to suspect it is not the real stuff. Having them in my tank for 5 months and they all turn upwards like this:-

The left mid level one is supposed to be "weeping moss"

Specification of my tank is as follow:-

    Tank size- 90 gal
    Light- 6 x 36W PL, period 9 hrs
Fertilisation- EI method plus Ferkka for trace
    Co2- 35 ppm
    Temp- 25 to 26

I suspect that the weeping moss turns north due to strong lighting. I found that those at midway level and near to light source went upward more that those in bottom and shaded area. Can anyone advise me??

Weeping moss was named for the "weeping" fronds.

Perhaps the same thread that the above picture was found in can help you...

squee, so what you think be the cause for this?

grey_fox, i have both of this moss too, find that taiwan moss, their growth are kinda fast. actually my interest now is to grow other type of moss, weeping, willow..etc. and one which you probably heard before, flame moss, would like to try.

richietay, I do not know because I'm not a fan of mosses I gave you the link to the thread though, it should have some clues/insight into how to grow this moss.

After all it might not even be weeping moss... mosses are so hard to identify.

    Hi

Just got some weeping moss from bioplast. Mr Tan (owner) told me that weeping moss needs high light intensity for it to grow downwards. That might be a clue?

I did a search on Killies.com (these guys are experts in moss) and found this interesting thread which has an extensive discussion on weeping moss-

    http://www.killies.com/forum/viewtop...highlight=weep

Most of the guys there had their weeping pointing north initially. One of them (Gomer from USA who showed pictures of his beautiful weeping moss) said that his moss suddenly turned down after sometime. No one could be sure why it was so, whether it was light, Co2, nutrient or any other factors.

Mosses take time to accustom to new environment. Once it is settle down, it will shown its charecteristic as you expected.

Weeping moss needs mid to strong light to grow nice.

Be patient, after a while, it should grow downward if you got the genuine weeping moss.
    Enjoy.

genuine weeping moss should grow downwards no doubt, but I am not aware that the weeping mosses need strong lights or time to acclimatized to tank perimeters...
