Hi there, My home Reno is nearing completion... Will be getting a set of 5ft x 2ft x 2ft (Max size approved by Minister Home Affairs) even where I got HDB approval for 6ft x 2ft x 2ft.

So here's the deal... Which would you guys think is better? should I get 2 set of Dymax Clip-on or 2/3 set of 70W MH... I know MH is HOT, I will not be operating a Chiller, so should I stick to PL/T5/FL?

Since you have no intention of a chiller, think T5 will the way to go!

Hi Limsteel (think we met before a long time back).

Your tank is gonna be 2ft deep leh. I dunno abt T5 but I'm using 2x 150W MH for my 4x1.5x2. Just fans, no chiller.

Since you are still renovating your place, why not use MH + pulley (to adjust height) off the ceiling?

Please do not disclose any price in this forum. We do not want to be in trouble with any lfs for revealing their selling price. The lfs competitor might make a complaint to their distributor and cause the other lfs some unseen problem. Also the selling price revealed here may be taken as a standard pricing in which unsuspecting forum member may use . Please use the pm to discuss about equipment pricing.

Limsteel, please edit your reply above to remove the actual price you quote. In future please use a round off number or even use pm to inform about the pricing.

I have made my decision after thinking about the cost of T5 and the HEAT of MH... I will use FL and PL instead to reduce cost as they are commonly VERY available.

Planning a 5ft cabinet tank, I will install 4 x 120cm FL (36W) tube and 36W PL light on each side to use up the remain 30cm. All will be mounted under the hood. So total setup is Elbow grease + ~$200 cheapo me!
    3 pcs 2x36W E ballast about ±$60
    4 pcs 120cm FL tube ~$20
    2 pcs 36W PL tube ~$20
3 pcs Double FL reflector (QUESTION: Anyone knows if there is and where to find parabolic reflector for T8?)

I also have 50pcs of ½W Blue LED, will try to DIY them and Turned ON 24/7 to reduce the yellowish tint normal 6000K FL tube will produce also act as night light.

Petah, I do not know about that but this forum practise a no-friction against lfs policy. We co-exist mutually benefitting each other ( although not with every lfs in Singapore ). They sell their stuff while we share information on the upkeep of this hobby. All the moderators here are volunteers who moderate certain section in this forum. We do not want to be in a situation whereby we are shunned by the lfs, that's why we do not condone openly the price in this forum. Each lfs may have their rights to sell stuff according to certain price. Some may be cheaper than others. Folks here will congregate to places where the price will match their budget. Those lfs who are not in the same line of thinking might lodge a complaint to their distributor about certain other lfs selling their stuff lower than what they are selling. The forum name might be implicated too for providing or supporting such lfs. However, nothing is stopping the folks here from using the PM function to discuss further.

    Hope you understand.

hm.. i can see that a non-frictional policy may be benificial. but the points you state do very little in terms of afirming the consequent.. being a non profit and all being volunteers as you stated.. the only problem i could foresee would be Possibly some ethical question.. which i dont want to get into. ... I can see no legal stuff here... but i dont know the Singapore legal system. As for shunning of fish shops... knowledge is non restricted, opinions are as well... thats just my 4 cents... also i could go into the economical aspect how knowledge (which we can consider semi-free) benifits the consumer but it be an essay
