Please Help!

I have 4 Panda Cory in my 40g tank and one of them is infected with fungus on its head . I seperated him and am currently using salt to treat it. Please let me know if you have any alternative treatments to best heal and least harm my fish.

Hi Neon-shrimp,
There are a few disease with symtoms like that, columnaris, saprolegnia, achlya or even lymphocystis. So it's kind of anybody's guess. Salt is good, that will keep the infection in check for a while. Check out Waterlife's and Tetra Medica's range of products which I have had relatively good results. Better still if you have picture for us. Is the patches gray or white? or reddish?

Thanks for responding. There are two main growths on my fish and they are both white and fizzy. The area around it is getting raw and pickish/red. Sorry about not having a pic yet I will borrow a camera soon.

Sometimes fungal infection appear as a secondary disease in fishes. They can be infected by bacteria and become susceptible to fungal infection. Sometimes combined treatment is applied. The medicine I usually use is Sera Bactopur for bacteria infection and Mycopur for fungal infection.

Do take note that most fungal treatments are toxic to invertibrates.

Sorry to hear about your cory. They are actually quite hardy fishes. By the looks of things, the fishes have been infected for at least 1-1 1/2 weeks. Don't procrastinate next time, cory mortality rate is quite low so with proper treatment you can probably save most or all of them next time if treatment is administered fast.
