Justin: I just got 3 pcs of the Ancistrus sp from Gan when he did not have any stock of Otos. He said they grow to 3" only? These fish do not eat plants as he claimed? I see them working hard on scrubbing the tank walls already.

They look like a bigger version of starlight bristlenose. Haven't seen the starlights around for a long time. What's the maximum size for the starlights?

He told me he got them small at about 1cm then, and has manage to grow it to current 5cm size. He caught from one tank but I do not know how many he got.

How much you have to ask Gan.. price is sensitive to post on the forum.
As for whether GAN is available.. i also don't know.. If you're interested in having a relationship with him... you should ask him first and foremost.

Usually, in captivity.. With the exception of constant feeding of bloodworms and all the high protein food, these guys shouldn't grow till that big.

According to planetcatfish.com, the length is 10cm... The 2 at biotope, one is about 3cm and the other about 5-6cm right?

I have since been dethrone, the undisputed humungous catfish keeper title now belongs to Mr Alan Koh( and will be probably for a long time ).... anyway big catfish are adorable just like your cat and dog.

Valice, after months of observation I still have no idea what Sp, those that were bought from Gan's but I can safely tell you I have at least 3 Sp variants displaying quite contrasting body markings.

But from the picture in planetcatfish, it does look like the ones we can get from Gan's place as dwarf bristlenose during the last AQ's outing...

Now you have 3 sp? Or are they showing different stage of change?

picture and body pattern is not a reliable way to tell these guys, especially at this size. even bagrus the dude is not able to say.

Nope, 1 variant has a armoured exterior and 2 slight orange patch on the tail. The other has a smooth exterior but spotted. The brown patches is common in this Sp. The other is black and with a lyre tail, most of them are about 5-6cm now. Mine is house in a tank with lots of driftwood and lapis sand, no plants.

Cannot lah, brethren Gecko, really broke now, you know my story. Would love to but maybe later, anyway I'm still fiddling with the Amazon biotope tank idea. Now daydream first.

what I meant is at this size it is hard to tell what they will grow up to. some people may have seen them in various size stages but its not so clearly documented. patterns and colours will change as they grow.
