This question is mainly directed to the veteran aquarists here, has anyone seen if the sailfin tetra has come to our local LFS before?

Try giving HWchoy or Ranmasatome a PM. Not sure if they want to sell though. C328 had some about 2-3 months ago.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

From Fishbase, looks like there is only one described species, Crenuchus spilurus. Read from the breeding account here that there may be more undescribed species.

    Guys, pictures anyone?

i had one of this species breed for me and the fry were that small there is no way they could have eaten BBS, but that was to late for the fry they starved to death,
they only spawned twice then the male decided to kill the female.

Veri Very hard to find in local stores, at time come in as contaminants among wild catch fishes.

excellent website with good details on breeding!!
i found the description of the sailfin breeding behaviour very interesting.
also, like the descriptions for yamatos.
last but not least his excellent method for hatching brine shrimp takes it all!
