My filter's flowrate (think it's an Atman 3336) slowed considerably over the past 2 years. Any recommendations on what I should get for a 4x1.5x2ft tank?

Go for a EHEIM 2028, a bit expensive, but reliable, parts are available and easy to find the consumables items:

    2026-----------------------2028
Plus lots of knowledge in the forum about Eheim. For more info have a look at the details at this link:

Eheim 2028 is reliable. Mine has been working hard 24/7 for 3.5years and is still going strong without any change of parts yet

Yup, Eheim is the best! Though it's expensive but reliable and the parts are easily available. Invest in a good filter and you won't face problems that other filters give after some time which in your case is a slow down of flowrate.

    Hi Theo,

Any idea what is the cause of the decreased flow rate? Unless you have money to burn, why not try to rectify the problem first?

You can try cleaning the filter for one, sludge could have built up in the impeller recess, a good cleaning may solve your problem.

    All,

Thanks. Seems like Eheim 2028 comes highly recommended. I'll probably check it out once i have time to hit the LFSs.

    Eric,

I've already cleaned it once but the flowrate didn't improve so i'm suspecting that it's a degraded motor. I'll probably give (cleaning) it a last try before getting a new filter.

How about the availability of spare parts for the Rena filters? Is it readily available?

I have never needed to change anything yet... after almost 2 years. The shopowner of C328 told me that if I need any spare parts, I just need to inform her, she will order it for me.

The built is good. I also prefer the looks of the inlet and outlet tubes over those that comes with eheim filters. The flow adjustment is at the outlet tube just before the spray bar. The inlet tube comes with priming mechanism and it is very easy to prime the filter.

The Rena xP series are relatively new in the market. Came out only a few years back. The built and the priming features were a plus. The lack of local support was a put-off i guess. Time to check it out again
