**ALAMAK!!!*** I posted the wrong title in this thread. It should be "Exploring eastern Biawak area". Can someone help me to change?

Yesterday was another interesting trip. When I re-visited the Crypt. cordata var. zonata site, I was shocked to find akarensis group of Betta for the first time (in Batang Kayan basin).

Then found 2 rare natural cross hybrid of pitcher plants.

Also, found a beautiful terrestrial orchid in the Kerangas forest.

Still, I only explore less than 20% of that area.....I'll go back there next time....

Yup, Dr Tan already suggested me to use Betta cf ibanorum "Biawak". There are a lot of black dots on the cheek....a bit different from Betta ibanorum I caught outside of Batang Kayan basin.

Again, wonderful pictures! I LOVE aroids too. And don't get me started on Nepenthes!!! When I was in junior high, I went around collecting Alocasia macrorhiza types and those introduced caladiums near plantations when I 'balik kampung' during CNY. (Yeah, I was a plant nerd already then! Family thinks I'm weird) OK, I have a confession to make, I actually have a 5 foot tall Alocasia macrorhiza var. with 2 by 1.5 feet leaf span here, right beside me by my dorm room window! A year ago, found it for half price at K-Mart (seriously, you never know what turns up in Sydney). It only had one sad looking leaf, but I was I figured I had thick skin and lugged the human height plant and gallon pot onto public bus back to my uni dorm. (my friends who came with me pretended they didn't know me!) Anyway, its growing slower now (winter temps), but certainly bigger leaves this year with EI tank water change 'disposed' on it.

Just came to mind...Michael, have you seen Alocasia borneonensis (I think), which has leaf span up to 2 meters or something like that? I first saw it online from Malesiana Tropicals. I hope to acquire it someday. Hooked on huge leaves!
    Regards

Maybe I have seen it before, but I'm not good in identifying Alocasia sp. Got the picture of this plant?

I'm sorry, I had the name wrong. It should be Alocasis robusta "Sarawak". Had the mistaken impression from reading David Attenborough's 'Private Life of Plants' many many years ago. He had a pic of 2 meter wide leaves in a forest clearing, captions in the lines of "Alocasia species from Borneo", which in my absent mindedness I equated to 'borneonensis' (the '-ensis' is wrong too)...bleh.

This is the link from Malesiana Tropicals, which incidentally is based in Kuching!

Look at the guy climbing the leaf base.....of an aroid!!! Amazing!

    Another link to pic.

Sure want to see it in person!

I'm not the expert. I always ask people or check the reference books.
