Kpete4, welcome to AQ! To answer your question.
Since you are using the Installation Kit 1, you wouldn't need to prime the filter anymore! Believe me, it will work you out till you sweat! The next time you do a filter maintenance, you would need to fill the canister filter with water and fix everything back. When you connect back the quick release connector, you only need to open the Installation Kit 1 cap and fill that hose full with water. Closed that cap back and start the motor. The hose connected to the Installation Kit/Set 1 must be full of water and must be connected to the intake hose of the filter. When it is full of water and you switch on the filter, the hose that is full of water will create a suction occurence that will pull in the water form your tank into the filter.
Justikanz, I personally believe Eheim may/may not be aware of this problem. The Eheim Installation Kit/Set 1 could be created to address this problem. I've experience so much distress from using this filter model that I ended up buying the Installation Kit/Set 1 for EVERY 2026 model I have. I would not spend even a minute to prime this filter. Do the steps that I've written above to lighten your burden. Of the 3 2026 that I have, 2 are 2nd hand ones so I believe the priming function might have worn off.
The 2026 model are work horse in my personal experience, just that their achilles heel is the priming function. If you have extra cash and is into this hobby in the long run, grab a Installation Set/Kit 1 to lighten your burden of having to prime this filter. You'll also need 1 empty bottle for you to use to pour the water into the Installation Set/Kit 1.
Hope this helps!
