Of these 2 filters, which is better?

I did a little research but still wish to ask for more input..

Both are rated at 300l/h, and if I am not wrong, comes with self priming capability.

Eden 501 consumes 5 watts while the Hydor 10 consumes 10. However, I have been told that the Eden 501 is too weak to be used in a 2 footer and the flowrate reduces significantly over time, while the Hydor Prime 10 does it nicely.

Another thing. the Eden 501 doesn't comes with taps, right? I know the Hydor Prime series does..

Anyone with anymore inputs? I am setting up a new 2 footer and am contemplating these 2 only. No more Eheim this time round.

They are 2 very different classes of filters with the 501 being very heavily out matched. Comparing the Hydor 10 with the Eheim 2211 is more like it.

I'd go for the Hydor if you're going to use it on a 2ft tank. The 501 just won't cut it. You're right that flowrate reduces significantly over time.

Obviously, Hydor Prime 10 would be the better choice for a 2 feet tank. Was using this filter for my 3 feet tank and lasted me a few years.

Am using Eden 501 now for 1.5 feet shrimp tank, hardly see water movement but quiet operation, small and cute.

Thanks for the early response guys!

But one thing is that both are supposedly rated at 300l/h. Is the Eden 501 that poor in it's consistency?

I was hoping to use the new filter for my 1.5 feet for a while before moving it to a 2 footer. Wanna beat the cycling.

I was using Prime 10 for my 2-ft tank. I find that the flow rate reduces by quite a lot in just a few weeks when the media get choked. It could be that I have quite high fish load.

After a few months I had to switch because it could not provide enough flow rate through the chiller that I acquired later on.

Hmm.. but let me ask this question, do Hydor have an advantage in that it has more power? Because alot of reviews and hear-says coming to me stated that it is very difficult to place the Eden 501 too low from the tank as it doesn't have enough power to push the water up, while the Hydor Prime 10 is more aptly suited for this.

    Can anyone verify this?

And BC, when you said you had to switch, what filter did you switch to?

    Thanks.

I was using a Prime 10 for a 4ft tank! And it works very nciely... Too bad I had to decommission it a couple years back due to the fact that I can't find spare parts...

Am using EDEN 501 for my non-standard 2ft tank... Flowrate seems ok at about 4 months... My Endlers will be pushed away by the flow...

Yes, Hydor is much bigger in size and consumes 10 watts and therefore more powerful and can be place below the tank.

Eden 501, however is smaller, consumes 5 watts and had to be place beside tank.

Hmm.. thanks for the response guys..

I was actually wondering which, like I mentioned earlier, filter is better because I am trying to get one that can service my 1.5footer and be also usable for my 2 footer in about a couple of months time.

Guess I should seriously consider the Hydor Prime 10.

There's also the Eheim Classic 2211... I have 1 running on my 1.5 footer. It's doing a much better job than my Zoo Med 501(The Eden is based off this filter) did.

I considered the 2211 before, Brian.

But the lack of priming really turns me a little off. I just want something easy to use, with minimum hassles. If I am not mistaken, I did see it at C328 before.

Hydor Prime 10 also has one thing I like, non-green tubings and stuff. Ha.

Funny, I always get people complaining about the priming, or lack thereof, but I've never had a problem with it for the Classic line on Eheim... I do like the Hydor 10 and would recommend it over a 501.
I have my 501 running on a 1ft cube again.

For the classic line, once you get those double taps, priming is no longer an issue... It is even easier to prime than the Pro IIs... No pressing of priming button at all...

Hmm..that's why I didn't want the Ehiem, because I had to get the double taps and stuff.

Hydor Prime 10 comes with it as a standard.

Anyway I have tried Eheim filters and want to get this to try it out.

Once again, thanks for the inputs!
