    Hi,

Kind of a fan of GreenChapter and been browsing your website regularly. Don't mind me asking, I see that GreenChapter always if not most of the time uses Java Fern as the main plant in their aquascaping. May I know any reason or just happen to be your customers' choice of plant or design? Just my observation.

Anyway another excellent write-up of the massive tank. Excellent work, wish the team best of luck and have a good rest...

    Hi Fei Miao and ziyao,

We would love to take a nice front shot. But the entire building is always very bright and we will always see our reflection instead of the tank. Perhaps in the evening, but bad timing.

    Hi FND,

very observant of you. Java fern is our favourite plant among so many plants.

We choose the ferns as they are very adaptable, flexible, does not require planting, hardy, and can be anywhere in and out of the tank. It also fits well into one of our objective in creating long standing aquascaping without much intervention.

As for good rest.. hmm, i am still working right now!

This is just simply amazing! Hats off to you guys.
Just wondering... what's the water-change routine for a tank this size? Also, do you add any ferts?

Thanks for the awesome write up. Wish there's a full frontal shot though.

Thank you for all the compliments.

Water is changed about 10% bi-weekly. Fertilization is at its minimal as the tank is very established and self-substainable. There is also no CO2 injection for this tank. The water fall increases gas exchanges by a lot, and as the tank recieves natural rain water, most of the minerals are taken care as well. I guess decomposing leaves dropped from the trees around helps in a way too.

I guess its more of a natural cycle in it now.

As for the plants, cryptocorynes are lush and the spiralis are 2.5ft tall already.

Hmm? Do you mean rainwater has minerals?? i'm slightly confused now..

  16. #16
Sorry, should have been clearer on that.

Rainwater washes many stuff down the water from all over the places around the pond and thus, brings nutrient to it as well. Basically, we did not add any fertilizer after the plants established.

    Hi GreenChapter,
this tank setup is indeed gigantic very beautiful.
It must have cost a bomb, though, all the metal halides...
It is a pity we cant see a frontal shot, and the altums too. How tall is the water body?
Lastly, I read that you used cocopeat as a base fert? Cocopeat supplies nutrients as it decomposes right? But will it also tan the water or cause it to become tea-coloured over time as it acidifies it? Also, how long will these effects last?
    thanks

    Hi lam,

    thanks for the compliment.
The altums are probably in their largest size that I've seen so far. This is due to the big space that they have. The water is 90cm deep.

The cocopeat is probably 10cm thick spread entirely over the base, below a 20-25cm thick lapis sand. It does not leach and thus, will not stain the water.

I'm hoping against hope you guys have come up with a way to keep aquarium water acidic without CO2 and turning it brown. So you're saying that although the peat keeps the water acidic, the tannic acid doensn't come to the surface of the substrate?

    haha, even more confused now
