I am currently setting up a 3 ft tank. I have a Eheim 2217 external cannister filter, wondering if it is advisable for me to keep it for my tank or sell it away and get a not so powerful filter. As all i have is the filter without the pipes and tubings and medium, i would also like to know where can i get the stuffs from in case i decide to keep it for my own use. And how much will that cost me. Thanks to all bros in advance.

    Hi Kendrick,
I think it's fine, alot of brethren here use 2026 or even 2028 for their 3 footers. Try C328 for the spare parts too much items to quote...
A friend of mine use both 2026 and 2028 in his tank....

    Hmm...ok I try to help
    1) Ehiem media-about $40 bucks
    2) Bio-rings $10 bucks
    3) Ehiem sponge $12 bucks
    4) Piping $20 bucks
    5) installation set 1 $20+ bucks
    6) rainbar $10 bucks
    7) Ehiem suction clip $5 bucks

I think that about settles it, use bio home instead of Ehiem add additional $20 bucks should settle your budget. Have fun

You could save some by buying alternatives but only about $10-$15 bucks max. You could post on the Buy and sell segment and see if any of the members could sell it to you cheap. Or get Atman products the same size for ehiem. Quality comes at a price, you could opt for other media but the results will differ. Post it, Atman filters comes with 2 sets of pipings maybe someone will let go of it to you.

Dude, it's not necessary to buy original Eheim parts like the intake and output tubes. You can get similar stuff for half the price at places like Aquastar in Yishun and another LFS along Jalan Besar(for example). "biorings" can be bought for about $5 for a big bag at Nature Aquarium along Thomson road... You can get stuff cheaper if you'd only put in the effort to go out and look around.

2217 is the classic range right? Get the double taps. Then you can forget about the installation set 1. With the taps, your priming will be a breeze after you get the 1st prime going.

Two pairs of taps should be around 20+... Get the right size tubings which will fit your canister...

You can check out Eheim website to find out the exact size and accessories you need... If I didn't remember wrongly, your intake and outlet is of different size, so need two different pipes...

So is it a biological, mechanical medium? if i don't require installation set then how to connect to tank? What are double taps? I have noted that the sizes for inlet and outlet are different. thanks

The biorings/Eheim Substrate will serve as your biological medium while the course and fine sponges will be your mechanical medium.

Double taps are taps which allows you to detach the canister for cleanin while leaving the intake tube and rainbar still in the tank. Hmm.. Wonder if you understand.

The installation kit is not a INSTALLATION kit.. It is sort of a separate pipe like thingy which allows you to do priming easily...

The classic range does not have buildin taps like the Pro II range, so it is very troublesome to bring your canister for washing. Imagine bringing the intake tube, rainbar and all the tubings to the washing area...

I understand bout the biological and mechanical filters. I also understand the function of double taps (save me the effort from bringing the rainbar and all other stuff to wash together right) le. I have also checked out what a installation kit. But the question mark is without kit 1 and 2, how do i connect the pipes into the water. Or what u meant is i don't need kit 1 and 2 but will have to buy a suction tube and a rainbar tube. I think it sounds the same (same function) but the cost does differ by abit right. Is this what you are implementing?

Yup, you wouldn't need the installation kits. Just the normal rainbars and suction U-tubes...

    My 2213 setup is:

For inlet, suction tube -> piping -> tap - tap -> piping -> filter
For outlet, filter -> piping -> tap - tap -> piping -> internal reactor -> rainbar
