hi, i have a 2 feet tank with 10 cardinals, 2 sterbai, 3 white cloud mountain and 20 cherry shrimps. But i find something fishy about the cherries, some of them will lie on the gravel like as if they were dead(lying sideway), but once i go over, they will spring up and continue swimming again. This kind of behaviour has been continuing for about 2 months plus, i was afraid that they are going to die but so far there are no dead shrimps found and the number of shrimps inside still so many.

can someone tell me if the cherries's kind of behaviour is it normal or is there something wrong?

my tank is 2 feet, with a 250L/hr internal filter, temp is at 26.5.

“playing dead” is a sign that something is wrong with the environment, typically this happens after the addition of new plants that are contaminated with something eg pesticide that can linger for a very long time. I assume that the shrimp have been acting normal and you tank has finished cycling?

Probably best to increase your water changes until the situation improves and remove as many shrimp as possible to another tank until the situation improves.

i see, think i will keep doing water changes then, my tank has been running for 1 year before i introduce the shrimps inside. I just did a count just now by throwing in algae wafer to attract them out, still got 20 of them, but today they never act dead. I don't have another spare tank to transfer them
