This starhub is really so hard up for money meh?
I called up the customer service asking them if I could use my rewards points to redeem the world cup channels, also cannot! Fed up man! The fella say, you can use the points to pay for other channels, then use the money to pay for the WC package lor. Although on paper, there isn't a difference, I refused. I refused to pay a single cent for subscription to watch the world cup, not because I can't afford it, hell, I spend more on fish food. But because I feel it is unethical to make customers pay for something which should be included as part of the sports group.

So while others watch WC2006, I will get to watch other exciting "sports" such as horse racing, golf, people chopping up wood, or balancing on logs, dog training, or angmohs riding their bicycles/skateboards on U-pipes.

Yar, agree with andrew about goal2010, our Ministry of Community Development, Youth and SPORTS, can't even brign the WC to the people, still want to talk about goal 2010? While they are spending millions in building sports school, sports hub and bringing in foreign talents who can't seem to fare better than local sportsperson anyway and offering million dollar reward for gold medal winners in the name of promoting sports ... they somehow don't have the resources to do the same when it comes to bringing the WC coverage to the people.

Here's what I will do, I will go dig out my portable TV antenna, and catch the world cup either on Malaysian channel and/or Indonesia channels.

During this period of time, I have already reduced the number of channels I subscribed on SCV as a sign of protest. I am seriously thinking of cancelling ALL my subscriptions, anyway, I always thought I should read more.

Actually if they don't bring World Cup coverage in, it's still pretty acceptable. It really doesn't make sense to block the Malaysian signals, and at the same time, make existing subscribers pay a premium to watch. It isn't ethical at all.

totally agree on the part about blocking out rtm1 and 2.

There are also other unethical practices by starhub. The fact that cable provider has to lump difference channels into group and have a minimum number of groups that needs to be subscribed already suggests that they know there is something wrong with some fo the channels they are providing, yet, they force customers to subscribe to these channels and pay for them, before they can apply for other premium channels... that's unethical.

The fact that they switch to a so-call better digital set top box which seriously do not provide much better performance or add much value and start charging additional fees for set top boxes for both digital AND analogue set top boxes... that's unethical.

I really look forward to the day when we have other cable tv providers to end this monopoly.

That sounds very bad... to block out the RTM channels. I will check out my set tonight.

I never subscribed to SCV before. That's because of one incident many years ago. That time they were coming round my new estate to lay cable in each of our homes to set up for cable TV.

When I renovated my home, I asked my contractor to extend the TV antenna cable from one end of the wall, over the false ceiling, to the other side where my TV is. All nicely hidden. The extension was just a cable with a plug into the HDB antenna unit. We did not modify the antenna unit at all.

Anyway, those contractors came in while only my mom was at home. She didn't know what they did. When I got home, I was shocked that they have cut away my extension. They could have just unplugged it. Now I am left with a useless cable running nicely over the ceiling. The cut was too far back to reconnect back.

And that's not all. They laid a new cable from that wall to my TV set. And the cable is just laid on the floor! I can't hide it. Now it hangs ugly over my ceiling but secured with tapes, blu-tac and hooks.

I tried to call them to complain but they say they can't do anything as it is done by their contractors. If only I had been at home, I would have stopped them from installing.

Times have passed. But each time a SCV promoter calls me at home, I said "sorry - not interested" and hang up. I guess not everyone is as unlucky as me.

Anyway, too busy with kids and housework to be watching TV. I am lucky if I have time to catch the news.

Actually, the block for RTM TV2 is initiated by our dear neighbours. Someone in the bureaucracy complained that RTM 2 shows purchased shows for free, why should the channel be given to a cable tv provider... So only RTM 1 is shown on SCV feeds which are mainly "local" programmes. You wouldn't see any other language shows on it...

Been a few years already... But RTM 1 should be still viewable...

IMO... goal2010 is a joke!!! no realistic plan on how to acheive it.... Hope someone from scv is reading this.... but don't think anything is going to change... sigh... that's the price for being a singaporean... guess those "people" played and are still playing monopoly board game ...

It's OK. I got over it already.
My RTM1 is a bit snowy. But I think watchable if one don't mind. The audio came in clear enough though. Perhaps I go shop for a good antenna over the weekend.

I connected my cheapo antenna last nite, managed to watch the germany match on SCTV, a free to air indonesia channel. But I fell asleep and can't confirm if the Poland other match was shown. Will try to catch england match tonite and report back. Btw, using the same cheapo antenna, I got better pic quality for RTM then using the SCV arial, so who block the signal? You decide.

    Hi,

I just unplug the cable that goes from the wall socket/set top box into the TV set at the TV end. So to answer your question, yes, i unplug the settop box and connect the portable antenna to the tv.

The 'head' of the antenna is essentially the same as the 'head' of the cable so it's pretty much self explanatory.

BTW, I'm staying near east coast at the moment, not sure if you can get the signal for the indonesia channels from where you're staying. Oh yar.. the price to pay is, the half time analysis is in bahasa indonesia but who's complaining?

Last night I switch over to RTM1 briefly to watch the same telecast of the first match. The picture colour is there, audio quite ok. But snowy. If one is super desperate, can watch lah.

BTW - I found a RTM TV schedule for the world cup from some surfing on the net. See attached.

To set the records right... it was RTM who disallow Starhub to carry their channel on the cable TV, even though it can be received via the air by antenna.
