Trimmnig blyxa

Hey guys..

Just wondering how you guys trim your blyxa japonica..
Usually i thin them out buy uprooting then trimming off the plantlets and then replanting..but it seems i may have a tank now taht would be too troublesome to do this..

Do you guys just cut off the leaves that are too long, if you dont do uprooting? just like a haircut?? treat it as a rosette? what do you do to maintain you blyxa?

I pull the side stems(plantlets) without removing the main plant from the soil, and just plant the plantlets again.

I think if u cut the leaves like haircut, they will rot right.

I tried giving a hair cut to my blyxa before.. 2 weeks later the entire bunch RIP.

You have to find the daughter stem and snip it... Abit difficult if you have a big bunch... Else will have to uproot lor...

errr, how do you identify the plantlets? is it easily seen?

i have a blyxa in my small cube tank and it is getting tall and bushy. i was also wondering whether to trim it off like a haircut.

yup, it is easily seen, it is a small blyxa japonica coming out from the steam.

If I am free, I would pull out all and replant with smaller and healthy ones.
Otherwise I just remove those whose stems have grown longer than normal.

Blyxa should be one of the easiest plant to maintain. Very useful to fill empty spaces.

Sigh ... but so far, my luck with Blyxia was never good. Made at least 3 attempts and all failed ... the leaves are always bitten off by I also don't know what fish ... suspect it's my SAE.

I gave up SAE in my tanks long ago... funny to see such an old thread come up again..haha..

Necroing. lol. Now we know it's a stem plant. Trim at the stem but kinda wasteful. I don't keep this plant anymore. Use to love it.
