think your ph are bit high for shrimps. have it lower to below 7 be advisable. my tank ph hover around 6.5 to 6.8.
your tank have any plants in it?

I'm having a spare tank, lapis bottom with sponge filter.....
PH around 8, is it ok to keep shrimps?
I'm thinking of only malayan and cherries....
Thanks!

The pH thing is really over emphasize and really does not have much bearing to keeping shrimps or whatever critters since most are already acclimatize to the water conditions of our country. Taking the nitrogen cycle out of the equation is the best thing you can do to give the shrimps a nice start. Adding mulm from an established tank and adding loads of plants and then cranking the heck out of their needs would remove all possible chance of NH4 poisoning since none will make it as plants remove all of them.

I dont understand how come my ph is on the high side even though i'm using normal lapis sand and water? whats the ph of our water here?
My tank is already cycled so no worries about NH4 poisoning....
Thanks for the quick response...

Using the right PH is absolutely necessarily for the long term well mean of your shrimps. For short term, they can do with quite a wide range of PH.
