I dose in the morning before I go to school, when the lights are turned off. Doesn't matter really, there have been many discussions on the topic.
Dosing time :
(1) When the lights and CO2 are on, pearling, you dose your fert
OR
(2) Lights are off,CO2 off,night time ?
I noticed when in the day, the fishes are more alert, thus when you dose, they swim clear of any ill effects( if any to them)
In the night, if they are "sleeping" i just hope they don't get knocked out.
Views?
Thank you for any advises
Jake

If you dose it once a week, the fertiliser (plant's food) are for them to use for a week. It does not matter whether you dose when lights on or off.
If your concern is the fish, then mix the fert with water in another container before you pour into your fish tank.
Most of the fertiliser are safe for fishes unless you overdose.
i dose in the day...
it may take some time b4 the nutrients u dose gets fully circulated in the water ard the tank. so by dosing in the day, it will ensure that by the time ur lights are on [for me is b/w 6-12pm], the water is already "nutrients-enriched".
p.s: this is only my own analogy
i'm ADDicted to this wonderful hobby
Hi Jake,
Don't worry about such things the ferts won't knock your fishes out. Only thing you should take note (as mentioned by Shihyong) is the quantity of the ferts that you are going to dose.
The greedy fellas in my tank, that being the red noses will actually try to munch of some of the KNO3, they just spit it out
For me I normally dose before I head out to work (lights off).
