yes i am trying to create a moss lawn. the lfs around my house does not sell wire mesh. Those hardware shops are selling those that will easily rust. So it abit difficult for me to tie it on the wire mesh..And this is why i am thinking of trying this method

You can buy numerous flat stones (ADA's stones sell quite reasonably imho at NA) and tie moss to them and lay out on your substrate.

Nope, I did not insert them into the substrate. I tie willow and Taiwan moss on wire mesh and place them on the gravel. I placed spiky moss directly on the gravel. No insertion as the inserted part will die and rot. No point.

i'm creating a spiky moss lawn using wire mesh, easier this way. i got my wire mesh from north side Yishun(Chong Pang), which they charged 3ft by 1ft for 15 bucks, and some from NA.

    It's ok.

Anyway, most mosses can be placed directly onto the substrate as they will get a grip directly on the substrate. However, Christmas moss tend to be slow growers and it is better to tie them to some mesh...

if you're popping by Thomson, pop over to NA, they've readily cut stainless steel wire mesh

Just to update you guys that inserting the Xmas moss directly into the gravel(not too deep, as long as it cling on to the gravel and wont float up) do works. I'm happy with my foreground moss lawn now, and of cuz this is the lazy people technique.

some how i think laying on mesh n securing is easier than trying to insert into gravel directly....

probably. though im suggesting secure it to something cos of maintenance
its easier to just lift the whole mesh/rock etc which makes up the foreground to trim

if directly on the gravel im not sure how you plan to do trimming etc.
just cutting directly will release many bits of loss moss float around the tank
    seems abit messy

and you'll never know if some small bit floats around and gets stuck in some other plants and grows there...may mess up the scape.

Haha! Ya I agree with you. It will be abit more troublesome in the later on stage. Maybe i can siphon out the moss while trimming it.

Hmm.. could probably try that. im not sure if it'll work but no harm trying
personal preference as for me i prefer take out whole thing and trim.
easier to control the cutting for me compared to sticking the scissors into the tank.

my moss foreground grows quite fast. doubling in thickness every 3-4 weeks or so. so i need an easy way to maintain
