i am not sure how a solenoid works as i am on a manual regulator. i thought that a solenoid will control the number of bubbles electronically? is the brand vista a good brand? as my friend wants to sell me his piece after using for a year.. what are the things to look out for?

Nope, a solenoid is a electrical on-off switch. When on, the solenoid "opens" up allowing gas to flow. When off, the solenoid "closes" thus shutting off gas supply. The needle valve is the one that controls the gas rate.

I can't help you on the rest
