    Anyone Seen: 4ft light set with 3x 150w MH’s?

    Can anyone recommend a 4ft light set that has 3 MH’s? I have seen the 4ft “Solarmax Bright Series” that has 3 x 150 watts MH’s as well as 2 x 54w T5 HO’s [total wattage 558].

Are their any other choices in the marketplace?

each 150w mh pendant/bulb with good reflectors will cover a 2ft area. so for a 4ft planted, don't see the need to get 3x150W.

if you really need that amount of light, why don't you get 2 x 250W pendants?
    Cheers,

Thanks Justin, I did a brief scan of one of the local reef forums and got some supplier numbers to call.

Thanks Melvin, you are correct, not really needed but I like the intensity impact on the plants, plus the tank is as little deeper than most, 30 inches. Currently have a setup that is capable of 576watts output, but only have the light at this level for 3 hours per day, the remaining time it is 276w. The exception is the weekends when I have the 576watts on for 5 hours.

I think the heat from 250w pendants would be too much, plus I want greater coverage in the middle of the tank between the two existing MH’s … anyway the search goes on.

it would be more cost effective to get 3 pendants with separate switches then. a 4ft all in one fixture would be really exp.
can also try to find someone to diy 3 x 150w into a 4ft casing.

    check http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/

yap, the best way is to custom a 4ft with 3x150watts MH which can be done. here is a pic of a 4ft with 2x150watts

    Hi Razali (aka Dr Evil)

Do you think you would be interested in trying to make some changes my Dymax Hilux light set? The changes that are desired are to turn this Hi-Lux

    Into this Tri-Lux,

    through:
    • Adding another 150 watt MH bulb fitting between the two existing ones in the centre. This single MH is to be on the same power switch as the two fluorescent tubes, I understand that an extra ballast will be required. Plus the metal panel between the lights will to be replaced [cut], additional glass, I I think the space in the cetre is not entire vacant. There is some holes for two fans and the end, but no fans are present.

    • Change the 2 x30 watt FL's too T5HO's 2 x 54w. I understand that the current ballasts will need to be changed.

The additional MH’s is the priority. Do you think you could do this?

You also need to vent the heat away from the light set. The wiring and stuff may or may not handle the extra heat if all 3 sets are turned on. Either you add some fan to push cool air into the lightset or use an adequate airpump to pump in air into the light set.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

    Hi Mohamad,

The unit does have ventilation holes at both ends, but the idea of an air pump is not one that I had thought of as I am also concerned about the heat as even with two MH’s & two FL’s the unit does get really hot.

The idea that I was thinking of was to have two small fans using the round holes pushing air through the light casing, the Dymax Hilux is designed like a hollow heat-sink.

Reliability of the entire light is a consideration; I will simply not make any changes that impact reliability or safety
