Hi, thanx for the tip. Mine B. japonica is growing well, just doesn't grow into a rounded shape. Also need some more tip about HG. I am almost doing exactly your old tank. But my HG don't seem to be putting out runners, just sprout a lot of new leaves from the clump, and then sometimes got new plants (with roots) growing above the gravel attached to the leaves/runners. Any good tip?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Hg with new runners is a good sign.Abt those uprooted hg, just use those plant pincers and bury them in.Much better than using ur fingers.

the azoo anti algae will kill hornwort .

it will completely melt, but some of the stragglers will regrow back once you get rid of the chemicals.

my other plants have no visible effect.

Kingpin, just to add that u don't really need liquid fert. All minerals are provided by the base fert and water changes.Liquid fert is only for plant system without roots like riccia or algae. Plants grow roots not for fun . But if the base fert is depleted of minerals doses of it is useful.Just think for a moment here ,the HG I got at Teo plant farm are in square wooden pots. They just get minerals from the soil. So why must we dose with liquid fert if the base fert has plenty of minerals. I think many liquid fert co. might not be happy with me now.he..he..he

I am not sure whether I agree with you on this. There seemed to be different school of thoughts regarding this.

I have read that under high light and CO2. Plants will shift the nutrients intake from roots to leaves. There are many debates in other forums about this. Some of them have done some experiments.

My tank have only plain gravel as substrate and I am adding most of the nutrients via the water column. (direct opposite from yours) Most plants are growing well. I am still very skeptical about all the theories out there.

I tend to believe both nutrients in water and substrate are important... and nutrient uptake by roots and leaves are different... etc.
