Hi, this is Joseph Then, a new member to this forum.

    Glad to be here.

I've got interested in tetras for a few months and after rearing them for the past 6 months, I finally 'got serious' and upgraded from my Jebo tank to 24 Galloons NanoCube tank last week.

Here's the picture of my new tank:

    I have:
    1) Rummy Nose (I love them!)
    2) Cardinal
    3) X-Ray
    4) Hi-fin
    5) Guppies (Forgot the names)
    6) Yamoto Shrimps

Plus 3-5 more, I forgotten the names.

BTW, what's the name of this fish?

Now, since I got the tank, I have been reading up on caring for the tetras. I'm just confused with that GH and KH thingy.

I have a test kit for GH and the test was 14 degree.

    Any help to clarify?

To add on to my first post, I was watching my tetras and I think they are doing pretty fine.

However, my guppies are swimming right to the top. Sometimes they swim down, most of the time they are swimming right to the top, as though they are grasping for air.

I have a pump that provides bubbles, my PH is at 7.2, the CO2 level is OK. The rest of my tetras are doing fine.

    Should I be concerned?

    Welcome Joseph!

The name of the fish you have in the picture is a Microgeophagus ramirezi, or in short, Rams... It is a dwarf cichlid...

Guppies are surface dwellers and feeders, so it is normal for them to look like they are gasping on the surface, don't have to worry.

For your gH and kH blurness, if you are not doing CO2 into the tank, you don't have to worry so much. kH is the measure of the amount of carbonates in your tank while the gH is the overall composition of minerals hardness in your tank...

    Hi valice,

dwarf cichlid... Can it live with Tetras? I thought they are not to be mixed with Tetras?

And yes, I have CO2 in the tank because I have plants in it. Has kH and gH got to do with CO2? Is there a website that will provide me with such information?

    Are these parameters OK?

I saw this in the website:

    http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=3355

I'm concerned with the parameters for the freshwater. Are they correct?

    My parameters are:
    Temperature:80F
    pH: 7.2
    Ammonia 0.1
    Nitrite 0.25
    KH: 9KH
    General Hardness: 15GH

Looks OK to you? I thought the GH is a little too high.
