Tell you what! Get her a 1ft tank or even bigger if allow, challenge let her to a contest (Let their imagination run wild, let her buy what she want to plant or fishes she think would look good....After a month ask her again....how's your tank? Do you think your tank will make it to international level?Flash your ADA Annual Competition magazine to her!
She will answer you, i'm not interested anymore, you can the tank by your own.
What you gain!
An extra tank in the house
An extra tank to play with
Gain her respect want your decision was right, and planted is a serious art not anyone can master....and only you got the talent.
What if you lose?
Still an extra tank in the house
Still an extra tank to play with
Serve you right for not putting effort in the tank and your wife is better then you!![]()
But you got a extra hands during maintenance, Dear..i'm tired with work today can you help to change the water & cut the plant here..& there & there!
(You are still the winner.......................r)

Tried this before and her reply:
Dear, instead of buying me a tank, why don't we go SHOPPING ..... there is a sales going on blah blah blah......![]()
i certainly agree ...
imo, getting your Mrs involve in one way or another, however small it may be, will be very helpful. for me, i got her to choose her favourite fish, even to the detriment of my shrimps !! (she got a pair of rams).
well .... got to give in something in exchange right ?

Which is better? She cares enough to give her opinion or treats your tank as invisible?Originally Posted by sfchung

Wives are important to us. Remember how much you "spent" to get that one? Surely she must have been very valuable to you then, and can't be compared to any of the flora or fauna in any tank irregardless of how the "grow-out" turn out to be.
Last year, when I was away for one a year as a missionary, mine took care of my tanks, adding fertilisers and doing water changes every week. She does it reliably, and records the doses each time she does it in a little diary.
Unfortunately, water changes and fertilisation is not all the work that is needed for planted aquaria, and I came back to a tank choked with weeds, plants below were dying from want of light, while BBA and GSA were rampant on the surface leaves.... you know what I mean.
When I come back on furlough, she'd be so sorry about the state of the tank and all that it's difficult to get upset with her.
Maybe I'm lucky, but for better or worse, I'd count mine as a valuable helpmeet for me.
Warm regards,
Lawrence Lee

Amen to that, Lawrence !

of course wife is much more important than fish... wife is partner for a lifetime and fish keeping is, after all, just a hobby for those who prefer to stay home looking at their fish tank rather than looking at those in geylang...
Funny how come we need to seek permission to add extra tank but when the Mrs goes shopping, she can buy alot alot of things without asking our permission???![]()

Wives never want to inherit a tankful of fish and plants when their man kick the bucket, that's why.Originally Posted by dream

One more thing, never think that your wife's interest in your hobby will last long. Women's interest in fish-keeping is usually short-lived.![]()

Still remember the email that has been circulating a few years back about the shopping habit of man and woman. The man will go straight to that particular shop and buy his stuff and the woman, on the other hand, will go round and round in the shopping complex and bought alot of stuff except the one she intended to buy in the 1st place... ha ha ha...![]()

Actually, it is the same for us men too. It depends on the location and the kind of shop. I walk into an LFS for a packet of tubifex and come out with some new shrimps, couple pots of crypts that just came in and that "strange plant that has not been id yet".Originally Posted by dream
Similarly, I walk into a tackle shop for a replacement drag piece for my fishing reel and come out with 7 new lures, 1 new reel and a graphite blank to build that custom rod to match the new reel. Worse of all, I don't have time to go fishing![]()
Somebody, help me please. Tell me this is not normal for you.

Ah yes, the legendary 6 footer planted discus tank...Originally Posted by ranmasatome

Get dream tank before marriage, so she cannot say "NO" to it.

My tank was a pre-marital asset. I think I still get to keep it if things don't work out!Trying to sneak a tank in before marriage? I'd half expect her to say "we have many wedding expenses to settle dear...Let's wait till the wedding( and you may add renovation, apartment, car, baby etc) is over. Then you wait long long."
