I got this new CO2 that does not use the CO2 tank.

It's called NISSO Co2 System 900 and I got it from the LFS in Tampines Blk 201.

This is an Electronic CO2 Generator, where it uses an electrode unit, carbon and steel plate to generate CO2. (I don't know how it works, I just check the manual ) There is a simple dial to adjust the CO2 outlet.

I think it works great so far for my tank. My plants are growing pretty fast and healthy.

The whole unit takes up 1/5 of the regular tank but the diffuser in the water is bigger. It's still a nice unit to have.

Have anyone used it and find it great?

    Heh nkthen,

I was just at K & K Aquarium just now, yeah the big one at Tampines 201. The boss's son recommended me the same set, costing 60+ with refill carbon plates at 20+ and each plate should last 6 months. I didn't get since I have yet to get approval for a planted tank in my home.

I noticed that the micro bubbles are immediate and visible when it was demonstrated to me. I dislike the big dial controller though since it is hanging out of the tank and looks a little tacky. It is recommended for 2 feet and they have a bigger one for 3 feet. The size of the in-water diffuser is equivalent to an internal filter. If I am correct, it uses electricity to release CO2 from the plates. I wonder if it is cost effective though since I heard that a small CO2 tank with selonoid cost about 200 + but last a couple of years compared to 6 months for the carbon plates.

Great to hear that your plants are doing well. Please keep us updated on the
    product and your electricity bills

Will still recommend one to buy cylinder type, much more reliable(constant CO2 output), more effective in preventing algae.
heard that electronic CO2 generator requires replacement of carbon blocks. Means more troublesome and not cost effective. it do not provide constant CO2 output.

I talked to the owner of Tampines Blk 201 and he also agrees with that.

However, my main reason for taking NISSO is due to space.

It's small enough for me to put it in the cabinet.

Yeah, I'll check on my electrical bills. I hope it's will not scare me off!

i ever got the electro plate type before at Malaysia, it's so much more cheaper there. Used it for less than 2 months and then decided to give it up. Main reason for doing so was that with the electro plate method, you're unable to fully gauge your co2 output. There's no bubble counter or what so ever, to assist you to check.
In the end, i ended up having algae problem. Gave up on it. Changed to co2 tank, so far, it's fuss free except the need to get it top up. But algae-problem free!

Heh heh, looks like some of you have problems with Nisso CO2.

Let me use it for 3 months first and maybe I'll have a change of heart. Or maybe I'm still happy with it.

Do take note that this CO2 generator converts the KH in the water into CO2. It will cause the KH to fall. You will need to monitor the KH when you use this system.

    Nisso CO2 System

    Hi,

I came across this item in the web and was wondering what this is.
Is this better than the conventional Co2 tank?
Any feedback from anyone here who tries this before?

    Cheers!

hey rudi, regarding the nisso co2 system, you check out the recent threads at Equipment and Accessories which had been discussed.
Had read reviews from other forums as well, would say this product had both it's pros and cons. well, maybe you can work out the initial cost and running cost of this product with others like co2 cylinder and the DIYs, compare and see which you are more comfortable in.
if you have any doubts, i'm sure many of the members here are willing to advice.

    Hi Rudi,
It also did well with my 150cm tank couple years ago.
Mine is the original version of the 'electrolysis co2 system' , the brand is CarboPlus - made in Germany
At that time I operate this co2 system along with the lighting using Legrand timer. The carbon last for 14 months and all plants growing well.
But as other brother mentioned you have to check your water parameter and see whether the KH easily fall.
If everyhting ok, then this system works well for tank not bigger than 120cm, very simple, safe, neat & clean.
    Cheers,

    AChen

i have use this for my 3ft tank before and initially plants are growing then suddenly evrything seems to just stop, maybe due to lack of fert. and one point is that you cant really gauge the CO2 level and the black plate thing is so obvious inside a tank. thus, i change to a cylinder and im loving it

anyway, replacing the carbon thing is not cheap, around 4 times the price of a cylinder top-up.
