I just did a search on the web and did not see any matches. Did you actually see pics or hear that these are local to your area? Why are you inquiring?

i have one of them with stripes on it's body. Trying out a new addition to my tank. Will probably post some pics next time. They are 2 - 3 times bigger than the size of a grown Yamato.

wow, that's huge shrimp. where you came across from, how you actually got the names?!

looks macrobrachium-ish..

I have no idea what "lightening" means in the shrimp context.
Agreed. But that's what it's been called. Just like APP for Ah Pek PlantOriginally Posted by budak

how big are they actually?
from LFS in Toa Payoh. this one is 3 times bigger than a grown yamato. I'll try to take more pics, not easy to get a good shot beside a cherry. Also, due to the limitation of attachment size allowed, I'd to crop and resize before I could post.
Actually, if you search the web, there are so many kinds of shrimps, is just that most shops here don't carry them. So it's no big deal actually.

Agree with ranmasatome. Think it belongs to Macrobrachium Type Shrimp(longarm shrimp). Heres what i know from the net :
Macrobrachium (Palaemonidae) shrimp are probably the most interesting shrimp species available. They are truly the Cichlids of the shrimp world displaying similarly interesting behavior (including territorial behavior). They are easily recognizable by their robust claws, which are quite long in the males. Many Macrobrachium species are aggressive both toward each other and other species of shrimp and fish, however there are still many that can be kept in pairs or small groups in the home aquarium. Although there are hundreds of Macrobrachium species with attractive coloration, they are not commonly available in the hobby.
so far, it co-exist very well with all my other Yamato, cherry and green shrimps. In fact it likes to hide in a corner and under drift wood, maybe because it's going to be a mother soon : )

Which LFS in Toa Payoh? Wish to take a look at the real stuff!
Thanks!
