i'm planning to get a canister filter soon but i'm trying to make a comparison between the following models

    1) 2224
    2) 2227 - wet/dry
    3) 2026 - pro II

which among these 3 models is the best in terms of value for money, bio-capacity and long-term use? i need advice on these 3 filters.

i think you cannot make direct comparison between this 3

because they all have different capacities..

2224 of coz is smaller than 2026
    comparing 2224 and 2026 is like comparing a 1.3litre car and 1.6litre...cannot.
the equivalent of 2026 should be 2226.
Personally i feel that the only significant diff between the 202X series and 222X series is only the gadgets (priming aid, indicator ball etc). What you are paying more for when you buy a 2026 over a 2226 is for the gadgets..

this is the only ground for your comparison. THe rest are equal.
FOr myself, i can do without priming aid etc..but that is personal preference.
if you think the extra $ for the extra features are worth it, by all means. Eheim stuff are good both ways.

    2227 is a wet/dry
it is in a different league..
the price is quite a lot higher.
i have 2229, can say they have quite a lot bigger bio capacity than a conventional canister the same size(for 2229, the size is like 2228 or 202

But due to its price, the wet-dry series is never popular. It is a shame not all ppl can use it because it really is good.

For most, the Pro, Pro II or classic will already serve them well.
But if you dont mind paying more, then the wet-dry series will not disappoint..It is something like a luxury filter..which i think shouldnt be made this way.
But no choice...it is part in marketing and part in cost.

I think the ultimate luxury filter is the Amano filter.

alright then i guess a 2224 will do just well for my 3ft tank. i just read up the EHEIM website. seems the only substrate u can use for the 2227 is ehfisubstrat. i don't think i quite like that arrangement considering the fact that i want a canister filter with the ability to perform chemical, biological and mechanical filtration. so guys, do u think a 2224 will do just well for a 3ft planted tank with very little fish?. and yea, do any of u have any idea on how much the average cost is for the 2224 and 2227? if the cost is not too high i'd get the 2227 cos i got several other filters that i could add up to the whole filtration system.

    thanks for the comments.[]

the reason why 2227/2229 uses only ehfisubstrate is that the biological action is so powerful that it doesnt require any mechanical media.

The wet/dry action breaks down larger debris into smaller pieces.
the massive bacteria colony "eats up" the waste.
Eheim is not so stupid to come out with an overpriced filter that is flawed everywhere right?

Chemical part...even with conventional canisters i will not advocate using it. There is a tendency for esp new fishkeepers to have over-reliance on them.
it is not needed if you have a good understanding of the chemical cycle of the water
