What is the main difference between the two agassizii from the two rivers?
    Colour?

What if a pair from different rivers are put together and breed? Screwed up genetics?

The link only mentioned about agassizii 'Tefe' is not really an agassizii actually...
But doesn't mention about mixing of strains... I have supposedly 2 female A. agassizii 'Alenquer'. Looking for male for them... Don't know whether it is a good idea to just get any A. agassizii and pair them up...

    valice,

i think the datz book means exactly that the tefe is a different species.

did you read the new PDF article that proposes that even different colour strains may turn out to be different species?

check this out, download the PDF for a read:

this would probably mean that trying to cross different colour morph or locality would mean hybridization.
not a good idea unless you have a specific goal in mind (i.e. better colour etc).
however, getting fish that originate from close proximity (geographycally) might be ok as they already occurr naturally in nature.
you just speeding up the stuff that might happen when their locality cross overs...

BUT i know how you feel about the incomplete pairs...

Yah.. It is so sad to see the females losing their yellow breeding dress day by day without the presence of the males.. Sigh...

I did think about locality cross overs... But can't figure out which river is near to the Alenquer area, so that can get the correct ones... Santerem? Expensive... Haha...

    Hi Vincent,
For breeding, I would like to suggest purchasing multiple pairs.
Otherwise, you'll be stuck with this problem now and then.
I encountered this problem many times already.

Alternatively, collectively purchase same locality type among hobbyists here. Then you get to hedge the risk around.
This is to me the most cost effective and fun method!
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!
