Keeping riccia down

Hi..a new here. been following all the topics for planted tanks and have been very interesting and helpful. ( sometimes a good laugh too!)
Just need some ideas on planting riccia. i know there has been a lot of discussions regarding riccia but couldn't find anything on how to keep riccia from floating.
I have riccia tied down to wire mesh with netting. It grows well to a certain height but starts to detach itself and float up. Same for riccia tied on driftwood.
Have tried putting sand..but doesn't give the lawn effect.
Ideas appreciated!

This what I read from Amano once.

Get some of the riccia, tie it a pebble/rock with netting and then use that to weigh down your riccia lawn. Eventually, the riccia grows again into a lawn. Also use it to create undulating lawns.

Personally, riccia irritates me and I find pearling artificial... []

I just got to know that someone anchor his Riccia this way:

Use a steel mesh shaped into a open box. Put the Riccia inside and invert the box and press it into the gravel. The Riccia should grow out through the gaps in the mesh.

This way no need to use netting and no need to tie.
I haven't tried it yet.

As for me I am now try to grow riccia.I am using the green netting like cloth. I have placed some riccia in the net and pressed it down to the gravel. I am using some pebbles and the front end of plastic fork to hold down the net. seeing some riccia forcing its way out...still waiting foir the full show.

Yeap, me too, have that same problem. when you put a rock over one area, the other area will soon have that problem, it's never ending. my riccia grows so fast that i gave them up. now, what i got is mini riccia... looks cute, so much smaller. my shrimps pull them out from the netting that i have to put the netting twice. it grows pretty well too. it's more expensive than the normal ones. i was captivated by the way it grew when i saw two tanks with the mini riccia in serangoon north.hope that this will be better and grow in the way i've seen them in those beautiful tanks.

I gave up riccia bcos of this problem too. From wat I heard, regular trimming would keep the riccia down. But trimming will result to lots of bits of riccia floating.... so I gave up... good luck

Hi....thnks for all the suggestions. I will probably just limit riccia to one tank to save the trouble of trimming and cleaning the bits.Looks like quite a few people are fed- up with riccia. However, it seems quite a number of people are still keeping it cos everytime there is a riccia give away, everyone seems to want it. Some has manage to grow it really nice like 'oqs' tank ( see his pics). I am currently trying out putting wire mesh on top of the growing riccia, hopefully the wire weighs it down as it continues to grow thru. Don't know if the mesh will be hidden if the riccia grows thru.

acutally, I've seen tanks where whatever trimmed or detached riccia that cannot be removed is left to float and grow. Not too bad looking when it becomes a nice mat.

When it grows to a thick mat, the whole thing can be removed easily. Whatever is left behind can regrow. As for blocking light, if you don't let it grow too thick, it should not be a huge problem.

I like the idea Juggler mentioned. Makes life wiht riccia more tolerable.
