    Hi,

would like to ask if any bros here have had any good experience with mini pellia?
plan use as foreground plant, but not sure of its growth rate n if it will keep horizontal growth etc.

also any comments on mini riccia? differences and comparison with normal riccia?

for my experience, mini pellia do better in lower temperature.

there's a number of foreground plants to choose from, classified as low to high maintanence.
moss be low maintanence, much easier, spiky moss is an option.

i had tonnnnnes of it and all from one piece about 20cent size.. grew to my entire 2ft log and then started to populate the foreground by themselves when it fell off.. grows quite well for me but my tank temp was about 26 degrees..
It grows in layers.. as in one on top of the other so you have to spread it on your own to cover foreground.. however.. i think it should be okay as foreground..

Think twice before you introduce riccia/mini riccia into your tank.
It is very difficult to remove them because it will grow everywhere in your tank and cause a lot of work to remove them.

But if you are creating riccia only tank, then, it could be very nice when you see the bubbling effect.

Mini Pellia can be use as very nice foreground plant. You can either tie them on wood/wire mesh/rocks. Once they grow, they will attach to wood.

Wondering about mini riccia issit the same.

C328 auntie says pellia grow slow. any comments on this?
they keep horizontal right? rather than growing up.

Already answered you on growth pattern... growth rate depends on what you supplement the tank with.

I would NEVER EVER introduce ANY kind of riccia into my tank.. horror of horrors.

As long as they are riccia, no matter mini riccia, normal riccia, giant riccia, floating riccia, sinking riccia, all the same, like ranmasatome said "horror of horrors"

Please take note Pellia (Monosolenium tenerum) is different from mini Pellia (Riccardia ). Pellia is much bigger compare to mini Pellia.

Slow or fast depends on many other factors from lighting to gravel. It also depends on the plants quality. If you purchase very bad condition plants, you need to wait for it to recover from the damage first and then adapt to your tank. Because of that, it may take much longer time for the plant to start growing and it may not be able to recover at all and just die off.

Generally mini pellia grow slower than riccia.

Riccia! I have nightmares about this plant!

I didn't even introduce it in my tank and it's taken over my tank! It's a weed!!

Therefore, be careful with your new plants. Best to wash them clean before introducing them in your tank. Plants can hitchhike too!

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Heh, well, if you really want to try out riccia, I suggest you get a first hand experience on it (although the warning signs have been given), I too had experience first hand and then decided for myself if having riccia in the tank is a good idea or not. I decided not to have riccia anymore due to its rapid growth plus its maintenance and the re-tying part is a hassle.

So, its really up to you and as the saying goes, "To each, his own"

haha, i don't want riccia. cause i noe its a mess
no time for so much maintenance, busy with work and all that.

i just thought maybe if mini riccia is different and don't pose the same problems i might have it.

but since all bros say any riccia is bad haha then its out of bounds for me as well.

hmm, if i want lesser maintenance, is it better to grow pellia on mesh as foreground or on dw?

mini pellia looks nice on both driftwood or on mesh as foreground. planout your desired scape, try them out.

but would say mini pellia as foreground will take longer time to spread to have a carpet feel, compare to other plants like glosso, moss, hairgrass...etc
