Hi all
This was my first try at a planted tank. I was at my regular LFS and got a phone call from my wife to say the tank was leaking, come home now! But it was too late. My son saved the fish though.
So have a look at it and see what you think and don't hold back your comments. Be brutal. Haha

from the picture, i find that your substrate alittle too thin (or maybe i could see wrongly). Plant growth doesn't look so healthy though. Can furnish us your tank specifications?
looks ok, just require more plants to fill up the spaces??
are there any base ferts or dosing of liquid ferts??

Hey mick,
Sorry to hear that the tank sprang a leak. Are you going to repair or replace it?
Anyway, from the look of things, you only have an internal filter and a heater. No CO2 fertilization. I don't think you would have had luscious plant growth from this set up. I'm sure in the medium to long term, algae will be an issue.
As for the aquascape, I do find it to be quite good. It's got a sense of depth, especially from the little alley that's off center. If the background plants grow taller and covered the back tank wall, it would be quite a pleasant aquascape.
Will we be seeing another planted attempt from you anytime soon?
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
I love the left side driftwood placement.
I have looked at the picture a couple of times now and each time consider the aquascape balanced, engaging in that one wants to get closer… so very good first attempt. My only suggestion would be to try a black background to highlight/contrast the plants and foreground.
i actually like the sandy foreground.. gives me a desert-ty feel..
thanks for all the replies, that tank is under repair the front glass nearly blew away from the silicone.
my replacement is a 2 ft cube with an sump tank under the cube, this will be powered by a small pond pump.
my queries for this tank are: what is the ideal depth of gravel/sand base and how many tubes to give it enough light for optimum plant growth?
if i can get the answers to this,
i will post pics for your comments, cos i think youve been very gentle with your comments, next time go for the jugular vein. haha
