One bag of ADA Amazonia is enough. The normal ones are good enough.. Powder versions are harder to find and usually used on top of the normal sized ones for cosmetic purposes.
Powersand also one bag.

I assume you mean the 9 litre bag for the Amazonia and 6 litre bag for Power Sand? Thanks for helping again Squee.
That is assuming you are creating a flat bottom...
If you intend to have a slope of any kind, with the extra half a ft, you need two packets with some left...
Yes, I actually want a sloping sandbed for extra depth of field. OK, I'll get 2 bags of Amazonia soil (1 normal and 1 fine) and 1 6-litre bag of Power Sand. Thanks Valice.

Don't bother with the powersand. It'll look real ugly when you pull it up with uprooting of plants. Go with just the aquasoil and then dose via the water column.

What do you mean? Will extended use of liquid fertilizers affect the fishes and shrimps in the aquarium?

Extended use of liquid fertilisers do not affect fishes and shrimps... provided you're not using some sort of organic stuff. Most if not all liquid fertilisers are inorganic.
Powersand is white in colour, and when you uproot plants the grains tend to stick to the roots of plants and fall on to the black Amazonia substrate. It looks ugly.
P.S. No point quoting posts in full, especially if your reply is going to be consecutive to the post quoted.
i aslo kind of regret getting a layer of fertiliser beneath my aquasoil. I agree with most bro here, just have aquasoil would be more than enough. Won't be so ugly too.
Thanks for the help people
Can I use these 2 together? Anybody here done it before?
Just use the aquasoil...

Ok... but why do you recommend against using the 2 together? Please advice. Thanks.Originally Posted by PeterGwee

Oh I see. I agree with you on the money part. Would I still need to dose liquid fertilizers with ADA aqua soil?
Depends on whether you are doing a CO2 or non-CO2 tank...
If it is CO2 tank, then it will be necessary to dose liquid fertilizers...
What kind of dosing regimen do I have to adopt? Would I still need to dose if I have substrate fertilizer... Please bear with me.. I'm quite clueless.
I don't have any experience with base fertilizers, so can't answer you regarding that.
But for dosing regiment, it depends on what line of fertilisation product you intend to use. But for plants, you have to take care of it macro (Nitrate, Phosphate and Potassium), secondary nutrients (Calcium and Magnesium) and micros (Iron, Boron, blar blar blar).
Seachem is a good way to start just following the instructions on the bottle. If you want to go the EI (Estimative Index) way, which many of us are using, you can use power fertilizers in the form of KNO3 and KH2PO4 for the macros and any of the brands of micros (Seachem Fluroish, Tropica's TMG now called TAN or Lushgro Micros)...
To know more about EI, you can do a search in the fertilisation threads... Got a sticky there I think...
Thanks Valice, I'll check out the thread.
