This morning mistakenly setting the needle valve too high, in the evening returning home saw all the fishes gasping for air, 1 octo and 1 rasbora espei plus a yamato and a cherry shrimp fainted.
Quickly off the CO2 and aerate the water - and adding 1 tsp of baking soda. After 2 hours aeration back to normal - but lost one rasbora espei. The other three fainted one had recovered and survived.
THe PH was crashed to 5 at a KH of 4. Go figure how much CO2 was there !

Heavy aeration and large water changes would help lower the CO2 concentration but do not ever think of dosing baking soda again as a remedy. The sudden large change in "salt concentration" would further do your critters in due to osmotic shock.

Your bubble counter didnt turn icy? Mine did the last time and it cracked. All fishes and Plants KO
It's not just "Step1: Add Water, Step2: Add Fish" If everything else don't work, add plastic plants and fish

They basically lay on their side at the tank bottom motionlessly except their gill still moving. You can scope them up by hand and they don't even move.
I net them up and place near the water surface and let them gasp in some air while areate the tank water.

Thanks Peter's advice on the risk of adding baking soda. I hope never have to face this situation again.

May be a PH controller investment can be a safety prevention ?
