    Bought over from Philippians...

Pardon the glass... Didn't change water and so got affected by algae...

What strain is it? The female is always yellow in colour but they are like avoiding one another...

Difficult to tell what strain since it is specially bred for the orange in three fins... But he has beautiful fins... Probably a pretty mature specimen you have there...

I do noticed that A. agassizii seems to be more aggressive towards their partners are quite difficult to get them to pair up. Mine still chases the female all over the place and any one who gets near his area...

    Any reason for that?

I was just thinking of trying an agassizi when someone was selling it...

This guy has no territorial instinct... He was just swimming like a, err... community fish!... And he is always looking at teh water surface for food...

The (very much smaller - in size) female is better at hiding... and trying to hold on to a territory, it seems...

And she seems to hate the guy... she will swim away almost as soon as she sees him...

haha, no worries he s just an affable and easy going guy. Hope he mates soon. When he was with me, they were close to mating once, female became very very yellow.

Hi, Justikanz, very nice agassizi red you have there!

Sometimes I just wonder how they can breed through to get colours like these!
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!

Ya, Phillipians, the female is still (very much) yellow... But like I said, she seems to dislike the male... Haha...

Thanks, Yorky... Phillipians raised him well...

The colours of the finages depends on the locality of the apistogramma... Like for A. agassiziis caught in Rio Tigre, they are more brownish... For blueish, this those from Alenquer... Mine old A. agassizii 'Alenquer' had blueish fins...

Anyway, for the flush orange or super red, they are due to selective strain breeding...

Nastiness depends on temperament of the fish... Like Justikanz say, his agassizii basically just swims around, but for mine, he chases anyone who enters his domain... So he is always chasing any tetra or female who comes into his sight...

thankyou for that. I think i have one. My husband went to lfs to purchase 4 red forest jewels I had ordered. I am unsure of the species he brought home, except I can safely rule out any of them being "red" jewels. Wish I had digital camera and I would be able to take photos for fish Id.

Err... Apistogrammas = Red forest jewels in Australia?

That's the problem with trade names!

Hi, I am always confused with the names..

I just bought one that looks like Justikanz Aga but the tail is rounder, so anyone know the actual name?

There are a couple of different Apistogrammas with round tails...
A picture would give an immediate answer...

Also the description of the dorsal fins would help. Like whether the first few rays of the dorsal is long or short? But picture speaks a million words...
