Hiding Fishes

Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea why my fished seems to be hiding behind my driftwood most of the time? Is it because the quality of the water ?

Hi... Do provide more infomation... Let us know of

1) What type of fish are they?
2) What tank mates do they have? What are their sizes?
3) What is their tank size?
4) Is the tank planted? If so, is it heavily planted?

As you can see, I strongly think it is more of a tank mate issue than a water issue.

A generic answer:

Fish hide cause they're scared to go out in open water. This feeling of insecurity can have many causes. Some fish only feel secure when there are other fish already out swiming, then you need to get some less shy species to be active out in open water. Some fishes need to have a dense planting to feel secure, stemed plants are good for creating such forests. Some fishes are nocturnal, and stay in hiding until the lights go out. A layer of floating plants to block out most of the light can make these fish more active during the day. Some fish need to be in a school to feel safe, alone they are scared and stay in hiding. Bad water quality can make fishes hide, and they get more passive. Distubance in the aquarium scare fish also, like rearranging or moving of fish.

If this is a newly set up aquarium, it's probably something that will pass when the tank matures and the fishes gets accustomed.
